Get the Waikato Certificate

Use the phone to get the certificate - browse to this page on the phone, and click here to grab the UserTrust signing certificate in CER Format

Locate the certificate on the phone by checking Applications - Office - File manager (look for a download folder on the phone).

Select the Certificate - Click on Options then - Save the certificate. It will now be available to you in the list of certificates.

Configure Eduroam

Start from your device's main screen, open the menu and select Settings, followed by Connectivity and then Destinations.

From Network destinations menu select and open the Internet menu to list your Internet access points.

  • Now click Options and choose New access point
  • When asked whether to Automatically check for available access points choose yes. If on Campus the phone should detect eduroam
  • Once the eduroam connection is created it will appear in your Internet access points list.

Configure the various options as detailed below and in the images:

  • Set the connection name to eduroam (all lower case).
  • Set the Data bearer to Wireless LAN.
  • Set the WLAN network name to eduroam (all lower case).
  • Set the Network status to Public.
  • Set the WLAN network mode to Infrastructure.
  • Set the WLAN security mode to WAP/WAP2.

Access Point Settings

  • Set Use access point to Automatically.
  • Select WLAN security settings to open the next menu.

EAP Settings

  • Select EAP plug-in settings to commence the next step.

EAP Types

  • Using the Options menu, disable all the EAP types except EAP-PEAP, so that only EAP-PEAP has a tick next to it.
  • Select EAP-PEAP to open the EAP-PEAP settings window, and then configure the EAP-PEAP settings as below.

Set CA Certificate

  • Leave User certificate as not defined.
  • Select CA certificate, and choose UTN-USERFirst-Hardware.
  • Set User name in use to User-configured.
  • Set User name to your Waikato email address. eg: bob@waikato.ac.nz
  • Set Realm in use to User-defined.
  • Leave Realm blank.
  • Set TLS privacy = off, Allow PEAPv0 = Yes, Allow PEAPv1 = Yes, Allow PEAPv2 = No
  • Then click the arrow at the top right to move to the next section.

EAP-PEAP Settings

  • Using the Options menu, disable all the EAP inner types except MSCHAPv2 so that only MSCHAPv2 has a tick next to it.
  • Select MSCHAPv2 to open the MSCHAPv2 settings window, and then configure the MSCHAPv2 settings as below.

Username and Password Setup

  • Set User name to your Waikato email address.
  • Set Prompt password to No.
  • Set Password to your Waikato email password.
  • Press the Back button.

Now press the Back button as many times as is needed to return to the main menu.
Open up the Web browser application, and try to visit a web page such as www.google.com.
