Handheld Device Setup

iOS and Android

These devices have been tested to work successfully:

  • Android devices like the Nexus One, and the Motorola Blur
  • iPad
  • iPhone, all generations, with iOS 3 and 4
The above devices will ask to accept a non verified certificate, check that the certificate presented is actually tools.its.waikato.ac.nz.

Windows Mobile

These devices running the following Windows mobile versions need two certificates installed to connect to the eduroam network.

  • Windows Mobile 6.1, 6.2, 6.5

In Internet Explorer on the device, click on the following two certificates and click the install tab on the bottom of the screen.
The connection to eduroam should then connect successfully.

Nokia Devices with Wifi

These phones have a somewhat involved setup, but have been made to work.

For the Nokia 5800, the Authority Certificate is the SSL certificate for tools.its.waikato.ac.nz.
You need to download it here, save it into a folder, then open the file browser and import it by opening it, and selecting the three check boxes, then clicking yes. Go back to the Wireless config page, and for authority certificate, select UTN-USERFirst-Hardware option.

Doing a google search for eduroam + your device/operating system is a pretty good start here.

Desktop Operating Systems:

Configuration for the above operating systems are mostly covered here, substitute eduroam for eduroam-us for the SSID in these examples.
